Comedy As I Understand It

As some people are aware, I'm all about making with the funny. Here are some sketches and routines I've shat out over the last year or so. Do be warned that people with a less sophisticated sense of humor than yourself may find a few of these in bad taste. Enjoy.

It Boggles the Mind

I submitted several routines to "The Sketch Show", a comedy troupe that was performing at the original UCB Theater. Boy, do I got a story about that one. But for now, here is a sketch for anyone who's ever had to deal with corporate "team spirit".

Gee, I Really Gotta Pee!

This was another site-specific routine I submitted to the Sketch Show. It starts off as a Dating Game parody. You have to wonder how the Sketch Show could have passed up comedy of this caliber.

VoiceFree Minutes

*Sigh* another sketch submitted to you-know-who. All I gotta say is "whoop's there goes another rubber tree plant!" This one has its moments, and I use the word "clitoris", which is always good for at least a nervous titter.

Flat Stanley

I don't know when to give up. I like this one however, as it's almost Chaplinesque. Almost.

Treehugger

With the other sketches, I think to myself, "gosh, I hope someone else finds this funny", where with this one, I always find myself chuckling. And it is the stupidest of the bunch.

Weekend Update Parody

Last year, I sent this to a site that hosted alternative versions of SNL routines, and got some pretty positive responses. With each news item, I employ the classic technique of "First Part, the Truth, the Second Part, the Funny". Of course it's going to become outdated, you nit. Some people still watch old episodes of the Naked News, too.

The Mysterious Invite (.pdf file)

With much of the material I write, there are people who are all "This is brilliant!", while there are others who get all "What the HELL is going on here?!" This little story serves as a prime example. Denise and Greg never get invited to anything. This was sort of long-form improvisation on computer, except that I had to fix up some typos (somehow the thing is still full of typos).

Check Back later, as I'm always trying.
